Larry Slade Intro

Rather than talk about me, I would like to share what we do at our "Brick n' Click" charter high school.
We produced this short video to help describe our online program.
This is why I love multimedia. Some ideas are just better communicated using multimedia than other formats.
I am taking this class because I enjoy multimedia production and want to learn how to best utilize it.

  1. It looks like we all have a lot to learn from you. Sounds like a great place. Teaching online courses is one of the things I would love to do after I graduate.

    1. The truth is, we have a lot to learn from each other. We created this program from scratch, including the LMS, based on the needs of our teachers and students. The danger of creating something original is that an organization can become provincial. I am here to learn from each of you. I am always seeking for new and innovative ways to teach and to learn.

  4. What a great contribution you are making in the lives of your students. Sometimes I get so excited about the new opportunities that are made possible by innovative people (like yourself) and innovative technologies. Can't wait to learn more from you this semester.

  5. Hi Larry. I noticed the green screen in your office. This is something I am interested in utilizing for my portfolio and am researching how to do it. You obviously have some expertise in this area of multimedia. I'm hopeful we will be covering some of these techniques in this course but if not I may need to pick your brain at some point. :)

    1. Yes, we do video compositing using After Effects every now and then. I would be glad to share what little I know about it. (I learn this stuff and then don't get back to it for a while and forget how I did it!).
Here is a link to an FLV movie we produced using a green screen. It is a quick introduction to our chemistry/physical science course. (It requires flash player on your computer to view it.)
It was kind of fun putting it together.

    3. Thanks Larry. That is similar to what I am thinking of doing. Just me talking in front of a background graphic animation. After Effects is what I have been considering using. If I go this route I'll definitely contact you if I run into any difficulties. Thanks again. :)
